VFW invites veterans to commemorate service on Wall of Honor

Henderson County’s Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206 is inviting veterans and families of veterans to commemorate their military service on the new Wall of Honor to be installed in the renovated VFW hall.

Criteria to be included on the honor wall include:

  • Honorable discharge
  • Military service in war time or peace in Active units, Reserves or National Guard
  • Next of kin may sponsor a deceased veteran
  • Must have a connection to Henderson County
  • Artifacts must be donated to the Wall of Honor program

Veterans’ ribbons and badges are displayed in 8x10-inch shadowboxes with their name on it. These shadowboxes will be placed in the first-floor lobby of the VFW building. If a veteran or family has lost their records, the VFW can help get copies from the National Archives. If some or all of their ribbons or badges are lost, the VFW can order replicas. There is no charge to the veteran or their families to create the shadowboxes.
The Wall and all completed shadowboxes will be installed this summer; others will be installed as they are completed. The VFW building, now a county owned and managed building, celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday.

Henderson County’s Veterans Service officers will move from their Spartanburg Highway office in the Health and Human Services building to the renovated building at Five Points this. VFW Post 5206, which sold the property to the county, will also move back into the building. For information, email Post5206@vfwnc.com.
