UPDATE: Schools closed Thursday and Friday; teacher workday canceled due to flash flooding

Henderson County schools are closed Thursday and Friday as the area braces for the potential for flash flooding, road closings, power outages and other hazards from Hurricane Helene.

"After monitoring Hurricane Helene throughout the week, consulting with districts from around the region and coordinating with Henderson County emergency management, we are announcing that will be closed Thursday and Friday," schools Superintendent Mark Garrett said in an announcement. "We are sharing this decision now so that everyone can make appropriate plans for the next two days."
