City urges water conservation as storm wrecks a major water intake

Due to the historic impacts of Tropical Storm Helene, the city of Hendersonville is responding to many urgent situations including operating the water and wastewater treatment plants under extraordinary circumstances.

Hendersonville water customers are asked to voluntarily reduce non-essential water use. Although the water treatment plant is currently operating, intake capacity was reduced when the storm disabled the Mills River intake. Personnel will work to restore the intake once crews can safely access the infrastructure.

Please limit your water-use to essential functions such as drinking water and preparing food. Utilize these tips to conserve water for critical uses needed during this state of emergency:

  • Limit flushing of toilets by multiple usage
  • Take shorter showers instead of baths
  • Turn off taps when brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes
  • Fix leaks immediately
  • Limit cooking water
  • Delay washing of laundry and only run full loads of laundry
  • The use of flow-restrictive and water-saving devices is encouraged
  • Temporarily opt for biodegradable or disposable dishes/utensils

The city of Hendersonville team is working to respond to unprecedented circumstances and appreciate your patience and cooperation.
