DSNAP applicants will get a call this week, county says

Residents who pre-registered for D-SNAP through ePASS.nc.gov by 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, but were unable to reach the call center to complete their interview will receive a call from DSS officials by Friday, Nov. 1, to complete their application, Henderson County announced.

NCDHHS asks those who have pre-registered to anticipate a call by Friday at the phone number they provided in the pre-registration application. The number calling may be from outside the 828 area code.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is offering the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to help hurricane victims buy food. As of Oct. 23, more than 105,000 individuals across Western North Carolina had been approved to receive D-SNAP benefits.

Disaster Recovery Center draws heavy traffic

The Henderson County Disaster Recovery Center, in the Blue Ridge Commons Shopping Center at 2111 Asheville Highway, is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to provide federal, state and local resources for county residents applying for FEMA assistance. Due to heavy traffic at the center, access to the shopping center parking lot is limited to right turns from the southbound lanes of Asheville Highway. Traffic traveling north on Asheville Highway will need to pass the entrance and make a U-turn before joining the traffic queue.

Storm debris pickup

Henderson County will pick up all storm debris for free that is pushed to the right of way on DOT, municipal and private roads. The county is partnering with the municipalities within the county for this pickup service too. Crews will pick up all curbside storm debris in Henderson County. The county is committed to continuing work until all storm debris is removed. Please be patient. If we missed picking up debris on your right of way we will return.
