Police seek the public’s help identifying suspect in deadly knife assault

The Hendersonville Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a deadly knife assault in the city.


Kevin Deran Copelin, 50, of Hendersonville died on Monday at Pardee UNC Health after police officers and paramedics from Henderson County’s Emergency Medical Service responded to an unknown problem at the intersection of 7th Avenue East and Robinson Terrace, according to a press release from the City of Hendersonville.
The officers and medical responders were dispatched to the location at 8:43 p.m. on Monday and arrived to find Copelin suffering from injuries consistent with a knife assault. Copelin was immediately transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the press release.
The assault appears to be an isolated incident. Detectives are pursuing all leads. No suspects have been named, and no arrests have been made.
The police department asks anyone with information about the incident to immediately come forward by contacting Detective Torbett at 828-697-3025.
