'Disaster tourists' warned to stay off closed roads in Gerton and Bat Cave

So-called disaster tourists are causing a problem on the closed roads of Gerton and Bat Cave, where only residents, road crews, contractors, emergency responders and other authorized personnel are allowed, the sheriff's office says.
In a message addressed to "fellow adventurers," the sheriff's office warned that driving around "road closed" barricades would earn motorists a ticket.
"If you spot any signs on the roads, they're not there to test your creativity in detours, but to ensure your safety and protect the hardworking construction and emergency crews," the post said. "Venturing beyond these signs might just earn you a special souvenir—a citation from the officers. These areas are reserved for residents, emergency responders, and essential personnel. So, unless you're on a superhero mission of your own, let's leave the sightseeing to another day and keep these guidelines in mind."
