The Hendersonville Tree Board invites the public to an Arbor Day celebration and tree planting at noon Friday, April 25, at Hendersonville Elementary School, 1039 Randall Circle.
The celebration will include Hendersonville Mayor Barbara Volk, the North Carolina Forest Service, Four Seasons Rotary Club, Hendersonville Tree Board and elementary school students. The community is invited.
During the event, a forest ranger will present awards from the Arbor Day Foundation to the city, and Mayor Volk will proclaim April 25 as Tree City Day in Hendersonville. Public works staff will assist in planting trees to benefit the community for years to come. The event is hosted by the Four Seasons Rotary Club, which has sponsored Arbor Day events in Hendersonville since 1991.
The Arbor Day Foundation named Hendersonville a 2024 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to plant, grow, and maintain trees to benefit its community. The Tree City USA program has recognized cities and towns that leverage urban forestry to enhance the livability and sustainability of their local area for over 40 years.
To earn a Tree City USA recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.
