Footbridge work to close Hooker Falls access

Construction of a new footbridge over Little River and a new Hooker Falls parking area will close the Hooker Falls access for at least two months starting in late April, the N.C. Forest Service said.

Work is under way on the new parking lot. The bridge work will require crews to close the access area because heavy equipment and crews will be working. The new parking area next to the existing parking lot will accommodate about 60 vehicles, relieving the overcrowding that often occurs at the popular trailhead access for Hooker Falls and the hike to Triple Falls and High Falls.
Moore Cemetery and Triple Falls also will not be accessible from the Hooker Falls parking lot during the construction. The new "multi-use recreational bridge" and parking area will allow hikers to reach Triple Falls without crossing the highway bridge.
Work is under way as well on a new visitors center at the High Falls access area. The visitor's center will offer information on DuPont State Recreational Forest, including the history of the forest, recreation and forest management.
