Two Pat's School of Dance veterans have won big-stage opportunities.
Madison Odom, a North Henderson High School graduate, has made the Dance Team at UNC at Chapel Hill.
More than 30 students tried out for five slots, and Odom was one of only three incoming freshmen to make the team. She will perform at home football and basketball games and at the "Late Night with Roy" event that kicks off the UNC basketball season.
Odom plans to major in biology at UNC and wants to attend medical school. She graduated fourth in her class at North Henderson, where she was involved in National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was North's dance team captain this year. She also volunteers with Special Olympics and Relay for Life every year.
A Pat's School of Dance student for 14 years, Odom will be dancing as Wendy in the studio's ballet June 16 and 17.
Another local dancer also has a big stage opportunity.
Kathlene Beam, a rising junior at Hendersonville High School and a Pat's School of Dance student for 13 years, was invited after an audition to attend the Rockettes' Summer Intensive Workshop July 28-Aug. 2.
More than 3,000 dancers auditioned for 400 slots. At the end of the weeklong workshop, Beam will perform at Radio City Music Hall. The performance is on Aug. 2.
