John Sheiry, a certified general real estate appraiser with the Trusted Appraisers Group in Asheville, will be awarded the Appraisal Institute's prestigious MAI membership designation this week.The designation is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties and who advise clients on real estate investment decisions.
Sheiry is scheduled to receive the recognition on Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Inn on Biltmore Estate during a meeting of the North Carolina Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.
By receiving the MAI designation, John Sheiry joins an elite group of appraisers who have met rigorous professional requirements relating to education, testing, experience and demonstration of knowledge, understanding and ability. The MAI designation requires successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report and 4,500 hours of qualifying experience requirements.

course on income taxes
Staff from the Brevard and Hendersonville offices of Carland and Andersen Inc. recently attended a two-day Farmer/Nunnallee seminar titled "An Update on Individual Income Taxes" and "An Update on Business Income Taxes". The program, held in Greensboro, was sponsored by the North Carolina Association of CPAs. Carland and Andersen is a full service accounting firm with locations in Hendersonville and Brevard.
