Pool supply, outdoor store opens on Airport Road

The Great Backyard Place, a Chattanooga-based retailer of pool supplies and outdoor furniture, will open a store on Airport Road on Friday.

The Asheville store is the company's fifth location. Incorporated in the 1950s, the family firm evolved over the years, offering pools and spas starting in 1979. Starting as A&M Family Fun Center, the company assumed the well-known name "The Pool Place" in 1982. The Pool Place gradually expanded its stock over the years to incorporate many products for overall outdoor living.
