Political briefs: Common Core, League, Democrats

The League of Women Voters of Henderson County will hold its April meeting on Thursday, April 16, from 3-5 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce. The topic is “Advocacy: Letting Legislators Hear Your Voice.”

The meeting is open to the public. The League is a non-partisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, and influence of public policy through citizen education and advocacy. For more information, visit www.lwvhcnc.org.

Tea Party workshop targets Common Core


The Asheville Tea Party Inc. is hosting a workshop on ways to repeal and replace Common Core at 10 a.m. at the Skyland Fire Department, 9 Miller Road, Asheville.
The workshop features “watchdog” recruitment, training and material for distribution to school boards, county commissioners and state representatives. The event is free and open to the public. Contributions are welcome to help defray the cost of materials and travel. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Democrats hold annual convention

 

The Henderson County Democratic Party holds its annual convention at 10 a.m. Saturday at the City Operations Center on Williams Street.
