The Civitan Club of Hendersonville awarded scholarships totaling $10,000 to local high school students during the annual Scholarship Day Program on Monday.
Five scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to the winners to be paid to the university of the their choice. The Civitan Club had as their guests the
scholarship winners, their parents, school guidance counselors and school principal. The speakers for the Scholarship Day Program were the five scholarship recipients.
The Civitan Scholarship recipients for 2015 are:
Jacob BusheJacob Bushe from Hendersonville High School who plans to major in anthropology with a minor in Spanish at the UNC Chapel Hill.
Rayelle Gilliam from North Henderson High School who plans to major in music therapy at Appalachian State University.
Samson Polovina from West Henderson High School who plans to major in mathematics at UNC Chapel Hill.
Chloe Whealan from West Henderson High School who plans to attend N.C. State University.
Rayelle GilliamCarrah Lia Beddingfield from Henderson County Early College who plans to attend Lees McRae College to major in wildlife management.
The scholarship awards are funded through proceeds from several Civitan projects throughout the year. The best known of these is the sale of Claxton Fruit Cakes during November and December.
Civitan believes that scholarships are one of the best investments a service club can make in the community since they recognize and encourage both academic excellence and good citizenship.
