Interfaith Assistance Ministry has raised $1.82 million in pledges, grants and donations in 13 months, reaching more than 70 percent of its $2.6 million capital campaign goal.
“We are deeply grateful to the individuals, congregations, foundations and businesses who have helped us reach this milestone that lets us break ground,” Executive Director David Cook said. “IAM is now seeking community support to raise the rest of the funds needed to get us into our new facility debt free, thereby ensuring that all future funding is directed to crisis services.
“While IAM does not depend on federal, state or local government funds for operations, we are seeking city and county support for our ‘Growing for Those in Need’ campaign.”
IAM plans to build a 17,000-square-foot building on a 1.64-acre parcel at 314 Freeman St. just east of the Blue Ridge Mall. The new facility will make it possible for IAM to consolidate programs under one roof, provide reception areas for volunteers and clients, save money on energy consumption, expand storage space for its food pantry and clothing closet and add a community meeting room.
Several options remain for “Naming Gift Opportunities.” A list is available from the IAM office. Send donations to: Interfaith Assistance Ministry, P.O. Box 2562, Hendersonville, N.C., 28793, or call IAM at 828-6297-7029. Additional information may be viewed at www.iam-hc.org.
For over 30 years, IAM has been offering a hand up to Henderson County residents who are in financial crisis by providing food, clothing, funds, guidance and referrals in an atmosphere of compassion and respect. With a small staff, IAM is powered by more than 300 volunteers who contribute more than 37,500 hours of service each year. In 2014 IAM provided $1.8 million worth of service to 2,800 needy families.
