EHHS band director takes job at A.C. Reynolds

Sean Smith, the award-winning band director of East Henderson High School, is leaving East to accept a job as director of bands at A.C. Reynolds High School.

Smith, a Hendersonville native, has helped build East Henderson's marching band, jazz band and symphonic band programs during his tenure as band director.
Doug Justice, assistant principal at East, said the administrators would begin interviewing candidates for the job this week
"We'll start the interview process and we'll get somebody good," Justice said.
Reynolds, which has an enrollment of 1,342 students, has a highly regarded fine arts program. Under band director William Bryant, the A.C. Reynolds Wind Ensemble performed three times at Carnegie Hall. In 2009 the band and the school's chorale traveled to China as part of a cultural exchange program.
The Buncombe County school system built a state-of-the-art performing arts wing at Reynolds in 2004.
