Laurel Park gets DIY fixup

LAUREL PARK — Laurel Park's Town Council assembly room is getting a spruce-up for the first time in decades. But if you're looking for a scandal of the kind when the politicians spend on themselves, move along. There's nothing to see here.

There is a flat screen TV to display agenda items for the public. The rest of the work, including chair rail, window casing, wainscoting, crown moulding and shelves, has been an in-house project by the higher-ups.

Councilman "Paul (Hansen) and I put on our carpenter's belts, and we've been doing this," Mayor Carey O'Cain said as he pointed out the unpainted woodwork. "We've been doing it ourselves. I think the whole thing has cost less than $3,000 including the Jumbotron."
