Jongo Java took first place as best decorated downtown storefront followed by Christmas Garden and Dad’s Collectibles as part of the Home for Holidays promotion by the Henderson County Tourism Development Authority.
Honorable mentions went to Postero, Black Rose, CA’s Cheesecake, Susan’s European Gifts, and Four Seasons Foundation’s Hospice Home Store.
A volunteer team of judges, unaffiliated with HCTDA, strolled down Main Street and each of the avenues last week. The judges viewed the decorations right after sunset, so that the Christmas lights were at their most spectacular. Displays were given a score from 1 to 5 by each judge. Scores were then tallied to arrive at the winners.
Winners and Honorable Mentions received certificates from HCTDA Executive Director Beth Carden and the top 3 received a gift basket.
This is the first year that HCTDA has sponsored prizes for the best Downtown Christmas display. HCTDA has encouraged an increase in holiday activities in December 2015 to extend the visitation season and promote year-round tourism.
