Parade, music, fireworks are set for the Fourth of July

The Hendersonville Merchants & Business Association is sponsoring the Hendersonville Independence Parade at 11 a.m. on the Fourth of July.

The parade lineup begins at 10 a.m. at Hendersonville High School. The theme is “Celebrating our Nation’s Heritage.” The family friendly event is open to all. Entry fee is $10 with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots. Decorate in red, white and blue, wave those flags, get out the bicycles, tricycles, wagons and decorate the family vehicle and celebrate freedom this year. A Fourth of July Celebration on the Plaza at the Historic Courthouse will follow with Tarheel Junior Historians and the Rescue Squad serving free ice cream and cookies.

Music on Main at 7 p.m. presents a Special Fireworks Celebration Concert by West Sound. As part of the Fourth of July celebration all military veterans and those currently serving will be recognized. All men and women having served in the military are requested to attend wearing a cap, t-shirt or some other source of military identification and those actively serving are asked to wear their uniform to be honored and recognized.

West Sound is a four-piece band playing a wide array of tunes from Motown, blues, country, R&B and the best of the Sixties. The band is made up of brothers Randy, Oscar and Cecil Weston plus female singer Regina Duke. They play such favorites as: My Girl, Sir Duke, Super Freak, Billie Jean, September, 1999, Brickhouse, Get Down Tonight, Blurred Lines, and I Feel Good.

Independence Day Fireworks Display. At dark, fireworks may be viewed from downtown Hendersonville and the south side of town near the intersection of Greenville and Spartanburg highways.
A large red balloon will be launched the morning of the Fourth to signify visibility of the fireworks show. If you can see the balloon, then you can see the fireworks from your location. Fourth of July in Brevard, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m., Downtown Brevard. Activities include: Heart of Brevard Street Festival, Brevard Rotary Firecracker Run, TCarts Fine Arts Show, kid’s activities, Humane Society Pet Parade, Music at the Gazebo, annual auto show, Sycamore cycles bike parade, concert at Brevard Music center, flag-raising, reading of the declaration, hot dog eating contest, duck race, live music, food trucks, beer, Fireworks at Brevard College at 9:30 p.m. For a schedule of the events and locations visit www.brevardnc.org.
