A Henderson County jury found Steven R. Ramirez of Hendersonville guilty of the first degree murder of Henderson County resident Oscar 'Poochie' Corn.The jury also convicted Ramirez of robbery with a dangerous weapon, first degree burglary and second degree burglary in connection with the home invasion on April 10, 2009, at the residence at 2822 Howard Gap Road that Corn shared with his wife of 35 1/2 years.
Henderson County Superior Court Judge Mark Powell conducted the trial and sentenced Ramirez to life without parole on the first degree murder charge, District Attorney Jeff Hunt said in a news release. In addition he received two consecutive sentences of 117 to 150 months on the robbery with a dangerous weapon and first degree burglary. The sentences are to run consecutively to the life without parole sentence. Ramirez was sentenced to an additional 20 to 24 months for the second degree burglary, to run consecutive to all other sentences.
Corn was beaten and shot to death in the family home. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter as well as grandchildren.

Two other defendants are charged in connection with this case and are incarcerated awaiting trial.
