The Flat Rock Playhouse hosted the Backstage Ball gala Monday night at the Blue Ridge Conference Hall at BRCC featuring entertainer Nat Zegree, Playhouse stars and apprentices and appeals to theater patrons to continuing their support of live performances.
Performances included a cabaret set, Zegree on piano, this year's professional actors and the 2019 apprentice class. Conceived by Playhouse artistic director Lisa K. Bryant, the show was directed and choreographed by Matthew Glover. The evening also featured a buffet dinner and an auction by Duke Domingue and Bird Bartlett of Duke Says Sold.
The Playhouse in recent years has held a Dark Night Revue as a summer fundraiser at the Playhouse. Playhouse leaders this year decided to go off-campus for its "immersive theatre gala." The show was sold out, with about 350 people attending.
