Carolina Village has opened its 54 new cottages and 36 new apartments as part of a multi-phase multi-year expansion of the nonprofit retirement campus.
Hendersonville's only Type-A LifeCare Continuing Care Retirement Community, Carolina Village is now home to more than 620 people, making it the second largest single-site CCRC in North Carolina and 26th largest in the country.
“We’re thrilled to see this project come to life,” said Executive Director Kevin Parries. “We’ve been working toward this day for years! After strategically planning this growth, we’re now better able to serve a growing population – people who move to Henderson County for retirement as well as locals who move into a retirement community as their needs change. There’s a ‘Silver Tsunami’ coming and it is already starting to hit Henderson County. We’ve been a destination for retirees as long as we’ve had beautiful views, a temperate climate, and southern hospitality.”
The Village submitted plans to the city of Hendersonville in the spring of 2017 after a two-year strategic planning process. Frank L. Blum Construction out of Winston-Salem was the construction team partner.
The 54 units of cottage-style housing, dubbed Clear Creek Cottages due to their proximity to Clear Creek Road, include six duplexes and seven six-plexes. Like all of the cottages at Carolina Village, the Clear Creek Cottages are designed for independent living. All but three of the cottages have been sold.
A community clubhouse has also been completed, and gardens will follow in the spring.
Additionally, a four-story, 36-unit apartment building called Lakeside Apartments is now located next to Carolina Village’s main campus building and its Tranquil Lake. The apartments, also designed for independent living, are one- and two-bedroom units with their own balconies. Thirty-six parking spaces are located under the building. All the apartment units were sold before construction began.
The not-for-profit community, which opened in 1974, is situated on more than 90 acres and offers 60 private suites in its assisted living Care Center and 58 Medicare-certified private rooms in its skilled nursing Medical Center. The Village also recently obtained a Deficiency-Free Annual Survey from the North Carolina Department of Health and consistently ranks very highly in surveys.
