Henderson County's count of covid-19 cases topped 300 and deaths reached 41 in the latest update from the Public Health Department.
The county reported 305 cases, including 223 affiliated with long-term care facilities and 82 attributable to community spread. The state Department of Health and Human Services, meanwhile, reports that nearly half the deaths, 20, occurred at one facility, The Laurels of Hendersonville. Overall, the nursing home has had 96 cases, 16 of them among employees. All of the fatalities were residents. (The state DHHS, which often reports different numbers than the Henderson County Public Health Department, reported the county's total as 318 cases and 42 deaths. Discrepancies happen because of timing and other factors.)
The Brian Center, which started a covid care unit on May 5, has had 49 cases and eight deaths, while Cherry Springs Village has 58 cases and 10 deaths, the DHHS reported Friday in its twice-weekly update of ongoing covid-19 outbreaks.
