Glassy Mountain trail closed for repair 4 days/week

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Friends Forever Trail crew began trail work on the Glassy Mountain trail last week.

The crew will correct trail drainage and erosion issues and repair trail tread on a one-mile section of the trail from "five points" to the top of Glassy Mountain. While they work, the trail will be closed from Monday to Thursday through Nov. 8. The trail will be open weekends, Friday to Sunday. Work is also being done to repair a section of boardwalk on the Memminger Trail. This trail will remain open during the work, and visitors should use caution walking around the work site. All other trails remain open.
The work was made possible through a $15,000 grant from the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County. The grant provided an opportunity for the park to partner with Great Smoky Mountains National Park Friends Forever Trail Crew. This work will help the park to sustain a valuable resource which is used by more than 60,000 visitors annually. The Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara provided additional support for the grant.

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, a unit of the National Park Service, is located three miles south of Hendersonville off U.S. 225 on Little River Road. The park is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., daily, except Christmas Day.
