Henderson County sheriff's deputies are getting new squad cars.
The Board of Commissioners on Monday authorized the low bid for the cars, which went to a Hendersonville dealer. Egolf Motors will sell eight 2013 black Dodge Chargers to the sheriff's department for $179,424.
Egolf of Hendersonville underbid sister dealership Egolf of Brevard by $1 to win the contract at $22,428 each. Ilderton Dodge of High Point, which had won several bids in the past, offered the cruisers for $23,034. The county budgeted $23,110 each for the cruisers.
The squad cars come with a full police package, including 8-cylinder, 370-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi engines (16 mpg city, 25 highway), spotlights, driver override of rear door locks and heavy-duty cooling system.
