Thomas Lee Hall, 41, of Edneyville passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, unexpectedly at his home.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mitchell and Ethel Lyda of Edneyville.
He had lived in Henderson County for most of his life, graduated from Edneyville High School in 1991, was a supervisor for the Polk County Department of Transportation and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a youth minister.
He loved to hunt, fish, being outdoors and was a wonderful father, husband, son and brother.
He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Jennifer Lyda Hall; two daughters, McCayla Elise Hall and Morgan Paige Hall, both of the home; his parents, Michael and Janell Jones of Edneyville; a brother, Mike Jones and his wife Christin of Edneyville and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Melton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and at other times will be at the home.

Sarah Marie Wright of Carolina Village, Hendersonville, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, after living a long and fulfilling life.
She was born in Williamsport, Pa. She attended high school in Penn Yan, N.Y., graduated from the New York State College for Teachers at Albany, N.Y. and pursued graduate work at Cornell University, and Syracuse University. She taught languages in Middleport and Clarence Central Schools, New York, and was a substitute teacher at the Cazenovia Central School in New York State.
After having resided in Cazenovia for 40 years, she and her husband, Parke, moved to Heritage Hills in Hendersonville in 1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Parke H. Wright; a daughter, Katharine T. Simon; a son, Parke H. Wright, Jr.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two cousins.
At her request, no services are planned at this time. Interment will be at a later time in the Nelson Rural Cemetery, Cazenovia, New York.

Marion Rita Fruchtman, 82, of Hendersonville died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Elizabeth House.

Mary Alice (Larson) Hansen, a long-term resident of western Colorado and more recently of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 18, 2014, at age 98. Mary Alice was born Dec. 20, 1915 in Chickasha, OK, the eldest daughter of Clarence and Clarice Larson. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, receiving her B.A. in English in 1937.
On June 25, 1939, Mary Alice married Kenneth Hansen. The family lived in the Midwest for the next 10 years. In 1949, they moved to Gunnison, Colo., where they raised their three sons. Mary Alice maintained a home in Colorado for nearly 60 years. In 2009, she moved to Hendersonville to be near family.
Mary Alice was an active participant and leader in community and church groups, including P.E.O. She was a wonderful gardener, baker and artist, and loved the outdoors. An avid reader, she also enjoyed a good game of Scrabble. For nearly 40 years she pursued her passion for painting, particularly watercolors, winning several ribbons for her work. Most important, Mary Alice was an exceptionally loving and beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband Ken, who passed away in 1995, her sister Evelyn Claire Larson, and her brother Robert Larson. She is survived by her three sons – John (Judy) Hansen, Henry Hansen, and Chris (Jamia) Hansen-Murray; two former daughters-in-law, Peggy Hansen and Mary Hansen; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration and commemoration of Mary Alice's life will take place this summer at Hillcrest Congregational Church in Montrose, Colo., at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.

Barbara Ann Stepp Sheck, 74, of Mills River passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Pardee Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was a native of Henderson County, lived here most of her life and also had lived in Lenoir, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Stepp and Laura Justice Stepp; a grandson, Jonathan David Robertson; and two brothers, Gerald Ray Stepp and Ronald Wayne Stepp.
She retired from Steelcase after 22 years of service. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Michael Lee Sheck; two sons, Randall Dean Robertson and his wife Kathy of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Jonathan Estes Robertson and his wife Regina of Lenoir; three daughters, Pamela Robertson Troka and her husband Robert of Greenville, S.C., Rachel Robertson Capps and her fiancé Eric Brehm of East Flat Rock and Kimberly Robertson Purdy and her husband Boyd of Hendersonville; one sister, Wilma Lee Lively and her husband Arthur of Hendersonville; one brother, Larry Neal Stepp and his wife Mary of Fletcher; a sister-in-law, Terry Stepp of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Jessica, Jason Dean, Sarah, Stephen, Brittany, Brandon, Taylor and Bryce; 5 great grandchildren, Grayson, Ethan, Clayton, Hadley and Carter Ray and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Jeff Neelands officiating. Burial will follow at Stepp Family Cemetery at the end of Oleta Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel and at other times will be at the home of Kimberly and Boyd Purdy.

Mary Lou Harris, 71, of Hendersonville was carried into glory at 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Pardee Hospital.
She was born Sept. 29, 1942, in Henderson County to the late Drayton Alexander Osteen and Lola Ballard Osteen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy O. LaWall, Willa Holbert; infant brother, Rudolph Martin Osteen; brother, Drayton Lee Osteen.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, Mrs. Harris graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1960. She retired from Duke Energy in 1997 after 25 years of employment. She was a lifetime and faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church where she was saved and baptized in 1953. She held many offices within the church and was currently serving as a Sunday school teacher. She loved traveling, RVing, camping, and the beach, where she was a part-time resident in Ocean Isle.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Kenneth J. Harris of the home; two sisters, Helen O. Jones and husband, Leslie "Sonny" of Zirconia, Catherine O. Blount and husband, Charles of Marion; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gail Clary and the caregivers in the ICU at Pardee Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Zirconia with Rev. Billy Lewis, Rev. John Saunders, and Rev. Howard Cabe officiating. Helen Emma Roman Sigal, 96, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Sharon's Place in Edneyville.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Eydie Merwitzer and her husband, Bill of Edneyville; her son, Robert Cramer and his wife, Caroline, of Clarkesville, Ga.; daughters, Rochelle Pettes of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Rozlyn Sigal of Land O'Lakes, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeffrey and David Marmins, Neil and Elliot Pettes, Micaela and Brady Robinson, Christopher, Clay and Craig Cramer, Cathi Cramer Costa and great grandchildren, Alec, Tatum, Hannah, and Cole Marmins, and Rylee Costa. Other survivors include her two brothers, John Roman and his wife, Kitty, Harry Roman and his wife, Pat, her sisters, Dolores Sunkin and Elizabeth Lucci, all who reside in the Western Pa. area, many nieces and nephews, and step-children and grandchildren.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. September 1917, Helen was one of 11 children. Being one of the oldest, she was given the responsibility to help care for her younger siblings, in particular her brother, Harry, who always thought of her as his "sister-mom." She was married for 63 years to the late Meyer Sigal who often referred to her as his "Beautiful Yaya."
She was a lifelong residence of Pittsburgh until October, 2002. Following the death of her husband and in declining health, she relocated to Hendersonville and has been in her daughter's care ever since. In August, 2012 her daughter and son-in-law, Eydie and Bill Merwitzer, moved her permanently to Sharon's Place to be cared for full time by Sharon Holcombe who had become more like daughter to Helen as she had been assisting with her care since shortly after they moved to Hendersonville. The caregivers at Sharon's Place who also became part of Helen's life and provided very special loving care are Irene Merrell, Michael Reed, Suzie Short, and Caroline Short. Wendy Rath and Dorothy Jeffrey also provided exceptional private in-home care giving as well during the years that Miss Helen lived with her daughter as well as when she lived at Sharon's Place.
Helen's goodness, strength, and beauty came from deep within her soul. She was a favorite wherever she was from the time she was a child to her last days at Sharon's Place. Her passing leaves a void in every heart that knew her.
There will be a Memorial Service at Agudas Israel Synagogue, Hendersonville, ag 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Refreshments will follow the service.

Joe King Mace, Jr., 72, of Horseshoe died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Elizabeth House.
Mr. Mace was born Nov. 23, 1941, to the late Joe King Mace Sr. and the late Julian Estelle Blackwell Mace. He was a veteran of the US Army, and worked in the plumbing trade.
He is survived by a daughter Jodi Ann Mace and one granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, with the Rev. Paul Ray officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Directors.

Frances Elizabeth Peebles Phillips, 92, passed away at Life Care Center in Hendersonville on April 22, 2014.
She was the daughter of the late George Chestnut Peebles and Rubye Moring.
Frances moved at age 4 with her parents to Hendersonville, where she graduated from Fassifern School for Girls. She married Don Barber and together they operated Barber's Studio on Main Street until Don's death in 1973. Frances continued operating Barber's Studio until 1978, when the building was sold. Frances Phillips devoted her life to her family, home and the creation of beauty in all she touched.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Barber of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and her neice, Mary Louise Barber of Hendersonville.
A memorial service for Frances will be held at 2 p.m. May 6, 2014, at St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville.

Henry Gorski of Hendersonville passed away at his home on April 26, 2014.
Born on Feb. 3, 1928, in Freeland, Pa., he was the son of the late Anthony and Celina (Tluczek) Gorski. He was also preceded in death by a sister Martha Spock. He served in U.S. Navy for 4 years, from 1945 to 1949. A graduate of Temple University in 1952, he was employed by RCA for 30 years in Summerville and Harrison, N.J., as well as Mountain Top, Pa. He retired in 1988 and moved to Hendersonville from New Providence, N.J., in 1989.
Henry is survived by his wife, Isabel Doggett Gorski; sons, Michael and his wife Cynthia of Germantown, Tenn., and John and his wife Kim of High Bridge, N.J.; daughter, Isabel McGrath and her husband Charles of Oak Hill, Va.; grandchildren, Jennifer Larmer, Matthew, Richard, and Henry Gorski, Alissa and Caroline McGrath; great-grandchildren, Jack and Julianne Larmer; brother, Joseph Gorski, and sisters, Dolores Falatko, Irene Graziano and Carol Ann Hollis.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, in the Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mary Virginia Crawford Cox, 86, passed into the hands of the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Brian Center in Hendersonville from complications from a broken hip.
She was the widow of Andy Cox, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Middleton; and her son, Andy Bruce Cox.
She is survived by her son, Eddie Cox and wife, Dianne; daughters, Judy Johnson, Janet Green and husband, Kenny, Kim Kehoe and husband, Blake; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Daniel Dellinger officiating. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Allene C. Stepp, 97, of Hendersonville stepped into glory Sunday morning, April 27, 2014, at the Elizabeth House. She had been in failing health for some time.
She was a Henderson County native, born Jan. 17, 1917. She was the daughter of the late James Fanning Corn and Ida Jeanette McCarson Corn. She was the widow of Charlie Elbert Stepp, who died in February 1979. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Agnes Blythe Mintz, Eva Osteen, Gladys Nelson, Launa Harvey, Malvin, Earl, Leon, and Roy Corn; great-granddaughter, Amy Caraker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville having been baptized in that church in 1929. She was a good Christian mother who raised her children to be believers. She was a fulltime homemaker but also a lifelong caregiver and babysitter. At age 9, her mother passed away from cancer leaving several children at home. She, along with two other sisters who were still at home, helped their father keep the family together by sharing in the rearing.
She is survived by daughters, JoAnn Fain and husband, David, Betty Lou MaGruder and husband, Gene Ray; three grandchildren, Michael Fain, Diane Worthen and husband, Ken, Donna Caraker and husband, Steve; four great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; half-sister, Alma Corn Stepp; sister-in-law, Sarah Taylor; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
A special thanks to the new family of caregivers at Four Seasons Hospice and to First Baptist Church for the food they delivered weekly to her home.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Shepherd Memorial Park with Rev. Alan Taylor officiating.

Stanley Bernard Romaner, 93, of Hendersonville and formerly of Franklin, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock after a brief illness.
Born in Bronx, NY, he moved to Emeritus at Pine Park in Hendersonville in January, 2014. A World War II veteran, Mr. Romaner served in the US Army.
His passion was his family and dogs, loving them more than anything.
Mr. Romaner was proudly married to his wife, Ethel Romaner, for 70 years. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

Hubert "Hubie" Sharon, 86, of Hendersonville passed peacefully in his sleep on April 25, 2014 after a brief illness.
He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Ruth Rosenbeck Sharon; his son, William Sharon and Patricia of East Longmeadow, Mass.; his daughter, Judith Craven and Thomas of Campobello, S.C.; another son John "Jocko" Sharon and Rose of Westfield, Mass., and Andrew Sharon and Pamela of Hopkinton, Mass. Other survivors include eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Hubie was born in Springfield, Mass., son of the late Frank and Nellie Sharon. He was predeceased by two brothers and sister.
After serving his country in the Army, he worked for Rafferty Brown Company for 20 years then the Artted Company for 25 years. He and his family lived in East Longmeadow, Mass., for 36 years before retiring to Hendersonville in 1992.
He played hockey and baseball as a young man. He belonged to the Elks Lodge #61 and the German Club of Springfield, Mass. He was also a charter member of the Shaker Commercial Bowling League of East Longmeadow, Mass. He enjoyed playing golf in his later years and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He enjoyed his many friends and always had a smile for everyone.

Ednal Anders Dryman, 87, lovingly known as "Rosie" to her family, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 24, 2014.
She was a lifelong resident of Henderson County. She worked at J.P. Stevens for many years and was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. She was predeceased in death by her husband G.W. "Jack" Dryman, her parents Lum and Nora Anders, her brother Grady Anders and two sisters Esther Lindsey and Isabelle Fisher, all of Hendersonville.
Surviving are her brother Calvin Ward and his wife Anna of Boiling Springs, S.C., and a sister-in-law Hannah Anders of Hendersonville; nieces and nephews, W.A. Lindsey, Jr. and his wife Patricia, Joyce Corn (Hogan), Ginger Maultsby (Ben), Jody Anders (Darcy), Regina Rucker (Stan) Vaness Weiss (Bill) Marty Ward (Edlyn), Jono Ward ( Jocelyn) and Nancy Crozier; great nieces and nephews, Leann Lindsey-Moon (Rick) Scott Lindsey (Karla) David Lindsey (Tonya), Andy Corn, Chad Maultsby, Courtney Bradley and Ricky Hazzard; great great nieces and nephews, Matthew Morgan, Sierra Lindsey, Will Lindsey, Nathan Lindsey, Sydney Bradley, and Elizabeth Anders.

Edith Pettit Cox, 92, of Flat Rock passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 1, 1922, to the late Dock and Annie Fair Pettit. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband David C. Cox , a son Garland Cox , infant daughter Ida Cox, and a great grandson Garrett Sheehan.
She was a homemaker and a charter member of Upward Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Earl Cox and wife Ruth of Flat Rock, Clifford Cox and wife Karen of Holberts Cove; three daughters, Louise Jackson and husband Terry of Flat Rock, Ethel McCraw and husband Plato of Flat Rock, Mary Campbell and husband Mike of Flat Rock. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 6 great- great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Upward Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Chandler and Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Upward Kelly Cemetery The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Thos. Shepherd and Son Funeral Directors.

Helen Emma Roman Sigal, 96, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday April 2, 2014 at
Sharon's Place of Hendersonville.
Mrs. Sigal was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Pittsburgh to the late John and Sara Roman. Helen was one of 10 siblings. Due to the size of the family she was given the responsibility to care for many of her brothers and sisters. She was married in 1937 to Meyer Sigal, a marriage of 63 years. In the words of her grandson "Quiet matriarch of our family, an amazing influence and a beautiful woman."
Helen was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh. Following the death of her husband in 2000 and with declining health, she moved to Hendersonville for her daughter's care. She spent 11 years with her daughter before going to Sharon's Place.
She is survived by her daughter Eydie Merwitzer and her husband William of Hendersonville; a son Robert Cramer and his wife of Clarksville, Ga.; daughters, Rochelle Pettes of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Roslyn Sigal of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, John Roman and Harry Roman; two sisters, Dolores Sunkin and Elizabeth Lucci; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sigal is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Sharon Holcombe of Sharon's Place.
A Memorial Service will be held 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Agudas Israel where she attended with her daughter.
