William Andrew “Andy” Arrowood, 28,

William Andrew “Andy” Arrowood, 28, of Mills River, NC went to meet the Lord, Friday, February 5, 2016.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Carolyn Ball and Ernest Craig and his paternal grandmother, Joyce Arrowood.
He graduated from West Henderson High School and had attended Blue Ridge Community College.
He was employed by Ingles as a customer service manager. He was loved by his co-workers and had a great relationship with them.
He loved playing with his kids, playing video games and watching wrestling.
Andy was a wonderful father, husband and son.
He is survived by his loving wife of 5 years, Alicia Arrowood; his children, Maddox Arrowood and Ezra Arrowood of the home; his parents, William F. “Bill” and Lisa Arrowood of Mills River; his sister, Cherisa Arrowood (James) of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Cameron and Logan Arrowood of Mills River; his grandfather, William H. Arrowood of Cliffside, NC; several aunts, uncles, cousins and three nephews.
A celebration of Andy’s life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 10th at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Dwight Edwin Collins, 83

Dwight Edwin Collins, 83, died February 4, 2016 at home following an extended illness.

Dwight was the son of Carper Herbert and Ivan Inez (Phillips) Collins who preceded him in death, along with his brother Ralph Collins. He is survived by his three sisters, Jaunita Hall, Helen Keatley, and Doris Hudson. His wife of 48 years, Linda (Robbins) Collins; his son, Steve Collins and wife Teresa; his daughter, Karen Collins Dunagan; his son, Boyce Collins and wife Laura; his daughter, Sabena Collins Maiden and husband Emory; his grandchildren, Felicia, Danyell, Kasey, Kristy, Ben, Ada, Ellary and Kade; and three great grandchildren, Jayden, Kayden and Cameron; his many nieces and nephews, as well as many close friends, especially Jane and Jimmy Jones.

Born and raised in Princeton, WV, he was a thirty-year resident of Raleigh, but retired to Hendersonville in 2002. As a young man, Dwight went right to work, his first official job title being a billiard pool racker at the age of 16. After high school, he joined the U.S. Marines in 1951, serving three years. In 1955, he re-enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, where he rose to Technical Sergeant. He met his wife, Linda Robbins, while stationed in Florida, and they were married in 1967. He retired after his 20 year military service in 1972, having served his country proudly, including both the Vietnam Conflict and Korean War, and was awarded several commendations, including the Purple Heart.

After his military service, primarily in the technology field, Dwight had the opportunity to join RCA, which became General Electric, where he served as a Field Technician for 22 years.

Dwight enjoyed maintaining his lovely yard, was known for his huge backyard garden in Raleigh, was an awesome bowler, and was a pretty decent golfer. An avid jokester, Dwight loved a playful prank or silly joke to make people laugh. His family was the most important thing in his life and he made sure they felt loved, were cared for and knew laughter.

He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church of Hendersonville.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow with Rev. James McHarge officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by Shaw Air Force Base.

Levohn Bishop Garren, 84

Levohn Bishop Garren, 84, of Flat Rock, passed away Wednesday, February, 3, 2015.
She was a native of Polk County and a daughter of the late Spurgeon and Charlotte Revis Bishop. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herschell Garren who died in 1988; son, Robert “Bobby” Garren who died in 1996; brother, Lloyd Bishop who died in 1988; and sister-in-law, Frances Bishop who died in 2014.
She was employed by Young Generations and Walmart and was very much loved by all of her co-workers. She was a faithful member of Mt. View Baptist Church of Tuxedo for more than 50 years.
Levohn is survived by her brother, Larry R. Bishop and wife Mary Lou of Tuxedo; sister, Gladys B. Burns of Arden; two nieces; three nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 3:00 pm Sunday at Mt. View Baptist Church of Tuxedo with Revs. Sherrill Moore and Craig Stepp officiating. Burial will follow at Fruitland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Linda Lee Hipp

Linda Lee Hipp was born February 7, 1945 at Scott Field in Springfield, Il. She spent most of her childhood in Germany where her father was an army officer. She graduated high school at the American School in Stuttgart, Germany. She returned to the United States to further her education. She worked her way through college and graduated San Diego State University in 1971. Linda spent a good part of her professional career as Senior Vice President of Bank America Business Credit serving as Director of Marketing and Administration. In addition to her daily responsibilities one of Linda’s proudest achievements was to chair the United Way campaign for BofA Business Credit. She consistently achieved 100% employee participation and well over the BofA dollar goal.
On July 19, 1975 Linda married Jim Chesnut. They remained in San Diego where they worked until 1999 when they both retired on the same day. After retirement they moved to Ramona, Ca, a suburb of San Diego, and built their retirement home. In 2008 Linda and Jim moved to Hendersonville where Linda immediately became involved in charitable activities including the Ladies Aid Society of Flat Rock serving as President since 2014. She also was an active member of Historic Flat Rock where she was on the board and executive committee. Additionally she edited the newsletter for Historic Flat Rock.
Linda fought a long hard battle against ovarian cancer and did not allow the disease to diminish her spirit. Linda passed away at Elizabeth House on February 4, 2016 four days short of her 71st birthday.
Linda is survived by her husband Jim, her sister Paula and brother in law Wayne Dillavou of Helena Mt, her sister Marta Panyard of San Diego Ca, her adult granddaughter Megan Madrigal of Clovis Ca, and her sister in law Janis Warren and her husband Ken of Pittsboro NC.
Linda will always be loved and missed by her family and all those that knew her.
A memorial service will be held at St. Johns in the Wilderness Flat Rock on Friday February 12, 2016 at 3PM. In lieu of flowers please remember Linda to St Johns in the Wilderness back pack program or the Hendersonville Rescue Mission.

Shirley Anne King, age 77

Shirley Anne King, age 77, a lifelong resident of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016.

She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lottie Ward, and wife of the late John King.

Shirley was the beloved mother of Eddie McMurray, Troy &
Angelique McMurray, and the late Karen Long; the grandmother of Ali
Lewis, Stephanie Calloway, Dylan Calloway, and Landen McMurray; the
great-grandmother of Alex, Sal, Katie, Skye, Gaige, Xaiver and Silas.
Also surviving are her loving siblings Ruth Garren, Ernie Ward, Janet
Leggett, Teresa Osteen, Julie Ward and Gary Ward, and the late Gene and
Vickie Ward.

Shirley attended Living Waters Baptist Church. She loved animals,
especially her pets Tug, Journey and Miss Kitty, and spent endless hours
working in her yard with her beautiful flowers.

Most importantly, Shirley cared deeply for her family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness and will be missed by
all.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 PM Friday, February 5th at
the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Tony
Birkhead officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to
the service in the chapel.

Henry Ronald “Ron” Hingenitz, 70, of Flat Rock, NC passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 at Mission Hospital.
He was the son of the late Henry and Betty Misiak Hingenitz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Linda Hill Hingenitz; a son, Joseph Hingenitz and his fiancé, Ashley Marshall of Flat Rock; a sister, Pat Robinson of East Flat Rock and a niece, Melissa Barnwell, her husband Larry and their children all of Hendersonville.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 5, 2016 at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Thomas and Rev. Jeff Neeland officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the East Flat Rock First Baptist Church and at other times will be at the home.

John Lowell Lytle, 75, of Dana, NC passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 after a sudden illness.
He is the son of the late Lowell and Caroline Saltz Lytle and was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Carter.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in Iceland and Newfoundland. He was an Orchardist and loved farming.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Gorman Lytle; two sons, Paul Lytle and his wife Patty of Dana and Chris Lytle and his wife Pam of Dana; five grandchildren, Marc, Kelly, Tori, Sam and Austin; two sisters, Velma Kerr and her husband Roy of Dana and Linda Justice of Dana and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 5, 2016 at Dana Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Henderson County Honor Guard. Charles William “Bill” Allen, 82

Charles William “Bill” Allen, 82, of Arden passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at his home after a lengthy illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Frank and Gertrude Campfield Allen. A US Army veteran, he served in Germany following the Korean War. He had been a sales representative at Harry’s Pontiac Cadillac and worked for Combined Life and Accident Insurance Co. and Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Co., retiring in 1989. In April 1990 he started Bill Allen Lawn Maintenance Service which he owned and operated through October of 2015. An avid golfer, Bill was a lifelong member of Etowah Valley Country Club and Golf Resort.

He is survived by his wife, Fanny Kerr Waters Allen, of the home; three children Jeffrey Michael Hood of Arden, Christopher Warren Hood and wife Crystal of Fletcher, and Rebecca Deanne Hood of Asheville; four grandchildren Brandon Munsey, Amy Madison Hood, Krystle Malta, and Samuel Isaac Hood; five great-grandchildren, Addison and Emmalyn Munsey, Sonny, Rowan, and Liam Malta; one niece Marcia Ellen Gault and one nephew Charles Vernon Waters, III.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 6 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Glenn will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Jerry Morris “Doc” Russell, 79

Jerry Morris “Doc” Russell, age 79 of Saluda died Thursday, January 21st, 2016 at Park Ridge Hospital. He was born March 13th, 1936 in Henderson County; a son of the late William and Nellie Pace Russell.

“Doc” served in the United States Navy; and served as Principal of Polk High School and Flat Creek Elementary School. He enjoyed carpentry, teaching Sunday school, and attended East Hendersonville Baptist Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Abby Barrett and husband, Chad and Mary Parker and husband, Avery all of Weaverville; three grandchildren, Bill Barrett, James and Sam Parker; long-time caring friend, Cecelia Hayes of Hendersonville; sister, Faye Chandler of Saluda; brother, Horace Russell of Saluda; step-sister, Dawn; and a step-brother, Donald.

The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1st, 2016 in Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel conducted by the Reverend Deacon Tim Jones. Burial will be private in the Old Mountain Page Cemetery.

No formal visitation at the funeral home is planned.

Flora “Dolly” Erskine, 88, of Hendersonville passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Laurels of Hendersonville after a period of declining health.
Born in Battle Creek, MI, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Maggie Dennis Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James David Erskine, Sr., who died in 2010. She was a member of Arden Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mrs. Erskine is survived by her son, James David Erskine, Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Weaverville; her daughter, Pamela Erskine Livingston and her husband, Raymond, of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Kris Erskine and wife, Marla; Tony Livingston and wife, Jana; and Holly Livingston Clark and husband, Dru; four great-grandchildren, Kellen, Ion, Brayden and Kinley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jackie R. “Jack” Ludolph, 81

Jackie R. “Jack” Ludolph, 81, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Elizabeth House.

He was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.

He had worked at the Waterloo Courier, the Minneapolis Star
Tribune, the International Typographical Union and had retired out of
the Washington Post.

He was a member of the Hendersonville Elks Lodge #1616.

He enjoyed playing golf, traveling with his wife and enjoyed the company of his cats.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Donna Freeman
Ludolph; 2 daughters, Anna Walker and her husband Steve of Leawood, KS
and Cathi Jolley and her husband Bill of Beaverton, Oregon; two
granddaughters, Tessa and Lauren and three great grandsons, Cooper,
Porter and Cash.

Robert “Otis” Stanley Sr.,67, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Wilson Stanley and his wife, Flo Hill Stanley. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served two tours during the Vietnam War and had served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Dupont after 25 years of service. Otis loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his son, Robert “Butch” Stanley and his wife Gina of Hendersonville; two grandchildren, Courtland and Cassidy Stanley; two sisters, Faye Stanley of Hendersonville and Teresa Barnwell and her husband Hubert of Hendersonville; a brother-in-law, Joe Hill of Hendersonville and several nieces and cousins. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Jackson Funeral Service and at other times will be at his home. A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at the Crab Creek Cemetery #2 with Rev. Allen Martin officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard. Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt Braswell, Jr., 89

Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt Braswell, Jr., 89, of Hendersonville, NC formerly of Marion, NC, went to be with his precious Lord on January 21, 2016. Ted was an awesome father and grandfather who has left to cherish his memory, daughters Deborah Skrady, Donna Teems, Sharon Smith, son-in-law Gary Smith, grandchildren Heather Sullivan and Jonathan Smith, and four great-grandchildren.

Ted was born July 11, 1926 and raised in Mitchell County, NC. He served his country in WWII as a U.S. Navy encryptor in Hawaii and attended Appalachian State Teachers College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then relocated to McDowell County where he coached girls’ basketball and taught for 30 years at North Cove High School and West McDowell Junior High School, and taught Adult Basic Education at McDowell Tech for many years.

A kind-hearted person with a spirit of giving and serving others, Ted devoted himself to serving his Lord as a Sunday School teacher at North Cove Baptist Church, a volunteer for the North Cove/Woodlawn routes of Meals on Wheels for ten years, an active member of the Mount Mitchell Oasis Shiners, and an active member of the Mystic Tie Lodge #237 for 68 years.

Committal services will be held in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC on January 25, 2016. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Spring Arbor of Hendersonville, NC.

Sarah Elizabeth Hudgins Uhorchak, 92

Sarah Elizabeth Hudgins Uhorchak, 92, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

Sarah was born in Rutherford County, N.C. on October 21, 1923 to the late James Hobson Hudgins and Floy Jackson Hudgins. She was the eldest of four daughters. She was preceded in death by her son, Gregory James Uhorchak and her daughter, Vicki Lee Uhorchak, her parents, her sisters Doris Ellen Seymour, Louis Mae Orr and Phyllis Marie Allen.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Walter (Wally) Uhorchak.

Sarah graduated from Edneyville High School in June 1940 and moved to Washington, D.C. She graduated from Strayer College, Washington, D.C. and was employed by the War Department (Department of Defense) as a secretary. After the onset of WW II, her entire office structure was transferred to Winston-Salem, N.C. She transferred to the newly opened Basic Training Center #10 in Greensboro, N.C. in the spring of 1943 where she met the soldier who would be her husband. Sarah and Walter (Wally) were married in the Base Chapel on November 6, 1943. She followed her husband when possible as he was transferred from base to base and she returned to Washington, C.C. when he was designated for overseas assignment in 1945.

After the war ended Sarah and Wally took up residence in Washington, D.C. and she was employed by the Department of Defense as a secretary. They moved from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, MD, to Eglin AFB FL, to Sunnyvale, CA, to Lubbock, TX, to Hendersonville, NC, to Tehran, Iran, and to Kennesaw, GA as Wally pursued his career in the aerospace industry until his retirement from the Lockheed Georgia Company (now the Lockheed-Martin Corp), Marietta, GA in 1992.

In December 2005 the couple returned to Hendersonville, N.C. and settled down in Blue Ridge Villas on Orr's Camp Road.

She is also survived by her nephew James Eric Orr (Janet) and their three children and grandchildren, her niece Kathy Orr McSwain (Tommy) and their three children, and the three children and grandchildren of her niece, the late Gail Orr McKenzie (Steve) and several cousins.

The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with The Rev. Dr. Gordon Elliott officiating. Internment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
