Ricky Dennis Sparks, age 64, of Hendersonville NC died Sunday, August 16th, 2015.
He was born in Roaring River NC and was the son of the late, Clifton Obar Sparks and the late Juanita Hooper Sparks.
Ric is survived by one sister, Rebecca Sparks Poplin (Douglas) and one brother, Gary Michael Sparks (Martha) as well as several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from East Wilkes High School and continued his education at Durham Tech where he earned his degree as a dental technician.
He was a long loved friend of his family at Village Ceramics Inc. where he had been employed until his retirement in 2012.
All who knew Ric will always remember his wit, wonderful stories and his talent for writing music, singing and playing the guitar. He will be missed greatly.

Thurman Justice Cairnes, 65, a native and lifelong resident of Mills River, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Justice Cairnes, his mother, Lilly Mae Patterson, and brothers, Clarence E. and David.
He was employed by Cairnes Electric for 17 years as an electrician until he opened his own business, “Thurman Electric,” in May of 1981 and served the North and South Carolina areas until the present. Thurman was a faithful member of Naples Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching classic Westerns and spending time with his family and his dog.
Thurman is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sadie Patterson Cairnes; their four children, Julie Guthrie and husband, Russell; Tammy McDonald and husband, Chad; Tonya Cairnes; and Thurman Justice Cairnes II (TJ)and wife, Jennifer; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his beloved dog and “girlfriend,” Tootsie.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Naples Baptist Church with the Pastor Richard Merck officiating. The burial will follow in Sitton-Gillespie Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30am to noon at the church.

(Lola) Jane O. Mayson, 82, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Hazel Russell Osteen and her husband, W. Lyman Mayson.
She worked at General Electric and retired from First Union Bank in 1995 after 20 years of service.
Her infectious laugh brought smiles to everyone. She was a very avid and active bridge player with the Hendersonville Bridge Club, playing at the local and regional level, was a member of the Henderson County Soroptimist Club and enjoyed bowling. She was a lifelong “foodie”.
She is survived by her loving niece and nephews, Cass Mullen (Joel) of Hendersonville, Rob Johnson Jr. (Patty) of Charleston, SC, Mark V. Johnson (Lana) of Fort Worth, TX and Steve Johnson of Columbia, SC; a great nephew, Hunter Mullen of Hendersonville; cousins, Tom Sherman (Janet) of Holden Beach, NC, Larry Turner of Hendersonville, Joan “Jo” Toney of Hendersonville, Todd Sherman (Vicki) of Hendersonville, Mike Kuykendall (Candy) of Sacramento, CA and Kathi Flowers of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a step-daughter of Asheville; many additional cousins, dear friends and her Bridge Playing Community.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jackson Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Shepherd Memorial Park 5045 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC with Rev. Phillip Cappell officiating.

Ashley Marie Roberts, 21, of Flat Rock, was granted her angel wings on August 9, 2015, following injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Ashley was born on August 19, 1993 at 4:50 a.m. in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and was a lifelong area resident. Ashley graduated from East Henderson High School in 2012, and was working as a legal assistant for Attorney William Gardo. Ashley was smart, beautiful, talented, and full of life. She was everything a parent could ever want in a daughter.
Ashley is survived by her mother and father, Timothy and Sharon Roberts of Flat Rock, one sister, Erica Roberts, and one niece Maddie Cox, both of Flat Rock. Ashley was also survived by her grandparents, Jim Roberts and Rhonda Dleozier, Emogene Reynolds, and Gail Clifton, all of Hendersonville, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her aunt Jamie Bowlin, her aunt Paulette (Pk) McMinn, and her grandfather, Roger Clifton.
Services will be held at Mud Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, August 15, 2015. There will be a visitation at 10:00a.m. followed by a celebration of Ashley's life at 12:00 noon. Flowers can be sent to Jackson Funeral Services. For all who will, family and friends are requested to bring pink balloons to send off in remembrance of Ashley and her love for balloons all in her favorite color.

Leslie Forrest “Doc” Coletrain Sr., 63, of Hendersonville, NC
passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.
He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, had resided in Wichita,
Kansas before moving to Hendersonville in 2006. He was preceded in
death by his mother, Betty Jean Copeland, a brother, Lewis Meredith and
an aunt, Carolyn Stanley and her husband Raymond.
He is survived by a son, Leslie Coletrain Jr. of Hollywood Florida;
his father, Pearlie Coletrain and his wife Gloria of Minnesota; his
sister, Wanda Lanning of Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren; two
nieces, Christina Freelan and her husband Brian of Weaverville and
Melissa Johnson and her husband Adam of Horse Shoe, NC; six grand nieces
and nephews, Tyler, Sean, Dylan, Kimber, Xoe and Mason.
No services are planned.

2015 in Tennessee.

Stewart Edward Cleveland, 96, of Hendersonville, passed away, Saturday, August 1, 2015.
He was a native of Pennsylvania and a son of the late Otis and Helena Cleveland.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Major during WWII. He was a resident of Henderson County for 36 years.
Stewart was an active member of Upward Christian Fellowship Church. He also participated in the weekly prayer groups of CBMC at Mills River, and at First Baptist Church on Saturdays.
He is survived by his wife, Esther B. Cleveland; daughters, Marilyn B. Sorrell of Clearwater, FL and Darlene Walker; son, Wayne R. Cleveland of Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. David B. Cleveland of Union City, OH.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, August 6, 2015 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Craver officiating. Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14 will render military honors.

HENDERSONVILLE - Lois “Lori” Pierron, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving children at Elizabeth House Hospice following a short stay at Pardee Hospital.
Lori (Lampton) was born in Detroit, MI, where she met and married James Meslo with whom she raised three children. The family enjoyed many happy times together at Houghton Lake, MI. James passed in 1978. Lori later married Gilbert “Gil” Pierron and the two retired to Hendersonville. Gil passed in 1995.
Lori was known for her quiet dignity, patience, kindliness, firm independence and fun-loving spirit. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and neighbors and especially relished being with her family, who always looked forward to their many visits and family celebrations in Hendersonville. Lori was an avid reader, a trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She also took great solace and satisfaction in caring for her flower gardens, some of the most attractive in her neighborhood.
Lori leaves behind three loving children: Christine Hayes and her husband Bill of Scituate, MA; Kim Thiel and her husband Hollis of Long Beach, CA; and Kenneth Meslo and his wife Lisa of Marietta, GA; she also leaves three grandsons: Jon Michaels and his wife Rain of Burbank, CA; Patrick Michaels and his wife Ellen of Halifax, MA; and Jake Meslo of Marietta, GA; Lori also delighted in her six great grandchildren: Makayla, Anthony, Dominic, Daniella, Annalee and Lachlan.
A memorial service will be held at the Kudzu Cottage, Highland Lake Inn and Resort, on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 12:00 noon. Family and friends are invited.
Lori’s family wants to express their deep appreciation for the compassionate and expert care she received from the staffs at both Pardee Hospital and Elizabeth House Hospice. Joe C. Branagin, 78 of Hendersonville, NC passed away July 31, 2015 at Elizabeth House after an extended illness. Joe was born July 9, 1937 in Frankfort Indiana. Joe was a graduate of Frankfort High School and Purdue University. He served in the United States Navy and held the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade while stationed on the Midway. Joe was employed by Continental Can Company until his retirement. Following retirement he and Mary moved to Hendersonville to pursue their enjoyment of playing golf. He was a member of the Crooked Creek Golf Club.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years Mary, a son David and grandson Bo all of Hendersonville. His parents Ralph and Helen Branagin and daughter Susie preceded him in death.

Newton, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Brian Center.

Oma Douglass Edney was born Nov 13, 1921 to Walter and Hazel Douglass
in Carthage, MO. One of 5 children, she moved to her beloved NC
mountains in 1934.
After graduating from Hendersonville High School and Blanton's Business
College, she and her husband, Cecil Edney, opened and operated Edney
Commercial College on Hendersonville's Main St. As Henderson County’s
first business school, it was the fore-runner of Blue Ridge Community
College.
Oma worked as an executive secretary at GE over 30 years.
She leaves 3 daughters - Carolyn Fiorillo of Fairview, OR, Barbara
Wilford and Jewell Ramos, both of Hendersonville. She was beloved "Gah
Gah " to 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A drop-in celebration of the life of Oma Douglass Edney will be Sunday
August 9 at Jackson's Funeral Service from 2:00 pm - 3:30pm. All are
welcome to share photos and memories of this wonderful woman.

Mary Alice Brauer, 91 of Fletcher, fell asleep in Jesus on Friday, July 31, 2015 at The Laurels of Hendersonville. Born to missionary parents, she lived in many places around the world, including Southern California, Denver, Colorado and the Shenandoah Valley, VA. She was a secretary to Seventh-Day Adventist Conference Officials. She and her husband lived for over 14 years in Egypt and Lebanon as missionaries of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She was a member of Mills River Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Alice played piano, was a wonderful cook, loved her flower gardens, and took great delight in her family.
She was preceded in death by a grandson Joel Brauer.
Surviving is her husband of 68 years, Carroll V. Brauer; sons Robert C. Brauer and wife Lesli of Mankato, Minnesota, James L. Brauer and wife Janelle of Tucson, Arizona, Ronald W. Brauer and wife Patti of Frederick, Maryland, and Marvin D. Brauer and wife Judy of Asheville; grandchildren Julienne Brauer, Jonathan Brauer, Adrienne Luzados, William Brauer, Cassandra Krause, Bryceton Brauer, Sashenka Brauer and Rachel Brauer; two great-grandchildren Gabriel and Jaden; and her sister Jeanne Barron of Nampa, Idaho.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday at Mills River Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Her sons, Robert C. Brauer and James L. Brauer will officiate. The family will receive friends from noon until 2pm prior to the service in the church. Margaret Jackson Harloam, 71, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in Clearwater, S.C.
She was born September 29, 1943 in Henderson County, NC, the daughter of the late Corbett and Geneva Jackson. Besides her parents, Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband of 42 years,, Lewis Harloam, who died in 2014, a sister, Jeanette Duncan, and two infants siblings.
She was of the Baptist Faith.
She graduated from East Henderson High School in the class of 1961. In spite of a lifetime of health issues, she was optimistic, and persevered over many obstacles . She loved her family dearly and cherished time spent with them.
Survivors include a son, Kevin May of the home, and two grandchildren, Kevin Jr. and Heather; two brothers, Edward Jackson (Priscilla) of Belton, S.C. and Thomas Jackson (Lucille) of Mills River, N.C.; three sisters, Clara Mann (Jim), Ruth Chilen and Sharon Jackson all of Flat Rock, N.C.
John P. “Jack” Holton Jr., 76 of Hendersonville, NC passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John P. Holton Sr. and Lucille May Harris Holton, his wife, Elizabeth Minchin Holton and a step-son, Jimmy.
He was born in Morristown, NJ and had lived in Henderson County since 1982. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, served in the Vietnam War and was very proud to have been a Paratrooper.
He was a member of the Henderson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter #14.
He retired from Manual Woodworkers in Saluda after 10 years of service.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacinda Helton of Stanley, NC; four stepchildren, Wendy, Wanda, Critsey and Bob; nine grandchildren, Levi, Patrick, Briar, Adam, Nellis, Hallam, Crissy, P.J. and Christopher; and two great grandchildren, Melody and Jacob.
At Jack’s request there will be no service.

Ruth Owenby, 89, of Bat Cave passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie Bailey. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul Owenby and daughter Linda Hyder. Survivors include her children Margaret Howard (Homer), Myron Owenby, Carolyn Shaunessy and JoAnn Garrett (Kim); 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11:00am at Broad River Baptist Church. Family will receive friends afterwards.

Pamela Blythe, 62, of Asheville, passed away, Friday, July 24, 2015. Forest Lawn Funeral Home Hendersonville is assisting the family.
Martha (Bowers) Toce, age 84, of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Newington, Connecticut, passed away on July 21, 2015.
Martha graduated from Mechanicsburg High School. She was a key punch supervisor before becoming a loving mother and homemaker. She loved gardening, owls, butterflies, square dancing, and was always ready for a rousing game of cards with her family and friends.
Martha is survived by her three loving daughters, Jennifer Byington, Judy MacDougall, and Jean McCauley; her three sons-in-law, Robert, Dave, and Kevin, respectively; and her eight grandchildren, Caitlin, Evie, Carolyn, Sam, Margaret, Katherine, Lauren, and Kevin Jr., as well as her brother, Raymond “Bud” Bowers.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Gerry, and her two sons, Jeffrey and James. Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, Connecticut on Friday, July 31, 2015.
