U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows, the newly elected Republican who represents the southern N.C. mountains, is popping up in Washington coverage this week for his role in trying to block Obamacare.
Meadows is the author in the U.S. House of a letter that urges House Speaker John Boehner to stop the health care act, which is broadly disliked by Republicans.
"We have 64 of my colleagues on this letter and we're asking the leadership not to bring anything to the floor that has funding for ObamaCare in it," Meadows told The Hill.
The freshman Republican has joined Utah Sen. Mike Lee in the vow to block larger appropriations bills that contain funding for the Affordable Care Act, a threat that some strategists say could lead to a government shutdown and hurt the Republican Party.
Meadows is undeterred.
"The will of the majority of the American people is with us in wanting to move money we would have to spend on Obamacare to other critical areas that have seen substantial cutbacks," he told WND(World Net Daily), a conservative media outlet that covers politics.
