The Henderson County Board of Commissioners on Monday made two appointments to the Heritage Museum Board and appointed a new chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee.
A divided board board appointed Ruth Birge to the Heritage Museum Board. Four commissioners voted for Birge, the United Way executive director and former Times-News publisher. Commissioner Grady Hawkins voted for Jack Gable. Commissioners unanimously reappointed Karen Baker, assistant director of the county Tourism Development Authority, to the museum board.
Commissioners designated Renee Kumor as chairman of the transportation panel, which makes recommendations on local road improvement priorities. A former county commissioner and current vice chair of the committee, Kumor replaces longtime TAC chair Jim Crafton, who is retiring from the board.
