Gov. Pat McCrory has appointed Henderson County District Attorney Greg Newman to the North Carolina Statewide Impaired Driving Task Force.
McCrory created the task force through an executive order and directed it to "review existing North Carolina data, laws, regulations and programs and develop a statewide impaired driving plan to provide a comprehensive strategy for preventing and reducing impaired driving behavior."
Newman earned an undergraduate degree from UNC-Asheville and a law degree from Dayton School of law.
A former mayor of Hendersonville, he served in private practice before McCrory appointed him last year as the chief prosecutor of the 29B Judicial District. The district attorney post became open when the governor appointed Jeff Hunt as a special Superior Court judge.
