Mark Meadows says the liberals are out to get him, and he's turning the attacks into a fundraising campaign.
Last week, in a guest blog post on The Hill, Meadows bemoaned the repeated Friday "news dumps" of bad news from the Obama administration.
"This past Friday, it was the Internal Revenue Service's turn to dump bad news on Congress," he wrote. "As Capitol Hill was winding down for the weekend and my colleagues and I were heading back to our districts, the IRS sent a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee stating that due to a computer crash it 'lost' former IRS official Lois Lerner's emails from January 2009 to April 2011. How convenient. Lerner is currently under investigation for her role in the IRS tea party targeting scandal and was held in contempt of Congress last month for refusing to testify regarding her role in it. Now we're expected to believe that a computer crash resulted in the loss of two years' worth of emails likely relevant to the ongoing investigation."

Meadows is asking "very simple, common sense questions about the corruption that exists in our Executive Branch," he said in an email blast to supporters on Friday. "And what did the liberals do? They lashed out, attacking me for demanding answers from the IRS and EPA officials who have broken the public's trust.
We can't back down. Too much is at stake."
"Can I count on your help before our campaign's June 30th deadline to help fight off these attacks. A contribution of $100, $50, or even $35 will help me beat back the lies and smears that are sure to come.
There's no question there's a lot of work to be done to stop out of control spending in Washington, create jobs, hold the Obama administration accountable, and preserve the Constitutional principles that make America great. I need you on my team in this fight!
"Sure, they have Bloomberg and Soros and other deep-pocketed liberal donors. But we have truth on our side. And with the help of hundreds of North Carolina grassroots donors we can make sure this seat stays in conservative hands in 2014."
In his blog post last week, Meadows noted that the "Friday 'news dump' is a long-standing tradition in Washington." So is using attacks to generate fundraising.
If the freshman congressman from the 11th District is under fire, the salvos are under the radar. A Google search of Meadows and the IRS and the EPA turned up coverage of his comments about the Obama scandals but no news of a counterattack on Meadows. Must be time to crank up the 2014 campaign. Meadows faces longshot Democratic nominee Tom Hill of Zirconia.
To get things rolling, Meadows is holding a campaign kickoff and barbecue on Tuesday at the WNC Ag Center with guest star Trey Gowdy, the South Carolina congressman who is chairing the special House investigation of Benghazi.
