When the county Republican Party had its big meetings to choose a new sheriff, the party chair could not see executive committee members who wanted to speak.
"It was too small and broken up to have a meeting," party chairman Mike Scruggs said of the house on South Grove Street that served as party headquarters. "I had to sit in the main room with other people in another room and down the hallway."
As it gears up for a strong grassroots effort to organize for the important 11th congressional district, gubernatorial and president campaigns, the party has moved to a more visible location with room enough to hold an executive committee meeting.
The party signed a six-month lease for the former piano store space in Brookdale Square at 1034 Greenville Highway. It has no steps, unlike the South Grove location, and plenty of parking. It has a restaurant next door and is easy to find. "It's only a half mile from Fresh Market," Scruggs said. "You can get your hair done and buy some paint."
