Local GOP officials offer Romney rally tips

Local Republicans eager to see their surging standard bearer in Asheville Thursday got some advice from a longtime observer and participant.
Republicans circulated a how-to on the Mitt Romney visit including a warning to arrive early and expect a capacity crowd.
The Romney campaign announced Monday that the nominee would speak at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the U.S. Cellular Center (formerly the Civic Center) in Asheville.
Here's the Romney campaign site information:
"You're Invited to a Victory Rally with Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and the Republican Team Thursday, October 11, 2012 Doors Open 3:30 PM | Event Begins 5:30 PM U.S. Cellular Center Asheville 87 Haywood Street Asheville, NC 28801 All attendees will go through airport-like security and should bring as few personal items as possible. No bags, sharp objects, umbrellas, liquids, or signs will be allowed in the venue. Cameras are permitted. For questions, contact us at: (919) 701-9753 or TeamNC@mittromney.com."
Here are tips from Robert Danos, a past Henderson County Republican Party chairman:
• Tickets you get in person from the AVL Victory office are not better than ones at the online link. They are all identical.
• Understand that your "ticket" in no way guarantees that you will get in to the venue. It only lets you in IF there is still room when your place in line makes it to the front.
• When they say that doors open at 3:30, they aren't kidding! And LOTS of people will be lined up before then to be sure to make it inside. Bring a folding chair to sit in line if you have trouble standing a long time – BUT you'll have to leave it outside.
• The event will be held at the "US Cellular Center" formerly called the Asheville Civic Center until just a few months ago. It seats 8,000 which sounds like a lot but it will fill! It is located at 87 Haywood Street in Asheville.
