North Henderson High School shortstop Zach Gahagan was selected in the 40th round of last week’s Major League Baseball draft but that does not mean the UNC recruit will skip his college career in Chapel Hill.
Braxton Davidson, an outfielder for T.C. Roberson High School, was the highest mountain area draftee, plucked at no. 32 in the first round by the Atlanta Braves.
“Chances are players in the top two rounds are never coming to Chapel Hill,” a post from the Tarheelblog.com noted.
That means Davidson might next be seen in a navy blue (or red or white, depending on the day) Atlanta Braves jersey and not in Carolina blue. The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Gahagan with the 1200th pick.
“In all likelihood Hunter Williams, Zach Gahaghan and Ryan Rider will end up at UNC given the meager value at those slots in the drafts,” Tarheelblog added.
