Bailey Hunter, Yellow Jackets to scrimmage at HHS gym

Co-captain Bailey Hunter, a three-time state championship MVP at Hendersonville High School, will lead Georgia Tech women's volleyball team into her old gym Saturday for an intra-squad scrimmage.

Hunter, who is headed into her senior year after taking a medical redshirt last season, said she is excited about this fall's season.
"I have never been so excited in my life about volleyball," said the 6-1 outside hitter. "I was not ready to be done with volleyball."
She pulled a muscle in her abdomen — because "I hit too hard," she said, laughing — before the season started last year and received a rare senior year redshirt.
"Her coach said she's invaluable," said Bailey's mother, Alice Livingston Hunter. "She said if I had a team full of Baileys I'd win everything."
The scrimmage is at 10 a.m. in the Jim Pardue Gym. Georgia Tech has brought 11 players to the mountains, one short of two full teams.
"I started thinking about what we're going to do and then I thought of Brooke," she said. Brooke Stanley, a four-year varsity star at the University of Albany and the daughter of hall of fame coach Jan Stanley of West Henderson High School, is the new coach of the Bearcats team.
"I think they've needed a coach that's played the sport and one that's close to their age will be easier for them to relate to," Hunter said. "She knows how to win. I'm looking forward to her bringing back the rich tradition that Hendersonville has always had."
Hunter was a big part of the extending that tradition. The all-time record holder at HHS in kills, she led the Bearcats to the 1A state championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007, winning the tournament MVP award all three years. She was also a star hurdler and a three-time MVP at Hendersonville in that sport.
The daughter of Alice and Randy Hunter, Bailey, 22, is a business management major at Georgia Tech. An uncle, Rutledge Livingston, played football at Clemson from 1975 to 1977. A cousin, Robert Livingston, plays football for William & Mary.
The team plans to eat a chili feast tonight at the Hunters' home and relax at an aunt's house Saturday at Lake Summit before heading home to Atlanta.
