Dr. Stephen J. Capps has joined the Laborde Eye Group, clinic founder Robert P. Laborde announced.
A North Carolina native born in Camp LeJeune, Capps received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Arizona. After completing a surgical internship at USC School of Medicine, he worked as an ER physician and served as an Emergency Department director in Juneau, Alaska. He then entered and completed a prestigious four-year residency at LSU Eye Center in New Orleans. He has been in private practice in Covington, La., focusing on sutureless cataract surgery, eye trauma, complex glaucoma and anterior segment eye disease.
Capps and Laborde met during their residency at LSU Eye Center in New Orleans.
"It is a pleasure to welcome Steve to our practice," Dr. Laborde said. "Not only will he fit in well with our business model; he brings years of experience and expertise with him."
Capps specializes in ophthalmology, cataract surgery and management of complex glaucoma.
Capps and his wife, Karen, have three children under the age of 13. He is an avid fisherman and enjoys traveling with his family. He is a boat builder and the proud creator of "Cappseyz," an 18-foot Louisiana skiff that won first place in historic boat reproduction contests. Dr. Capps and his family endured and survived Hurricane Katrina...and others. They look forward to life here in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
