The Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville honored three Hendersonville High School seniors and an East Henderson High School senior on Thursday with scholarships Morris Kaplan scholarships worth $5,000 for one year.
The scholarships, named for the late community leader and scholarship founder Morris Kaplan, are awarded on a point system that accounts for academic performance, extracurricular activity, leadership and financial need. The non-renewable scholarships go to help pay for tuition and costs.
The scholarship winners, with school, class rank, college choice and parents, were: Jaclyn DeVincent, EHHS, first, Elon, Christine Fann; Dana Jones, HHS, ninth, Barnard College, Donald and Doris Jones; Melissa Moss, HHS, third, UNC at Chapel Hill, Elizabeth and Bill Moss; Rebecca Woofter, HHS, second, Emory University, Susan and Doug Woofter.
