After Ida's edge passes, forecast for Apple Festival is sunny

Although the remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to bring heavy rain to the region today, the forecast is looking much better for Labor Day weekend and the N.C. Apple Festival.

Although the National Weather Service issued a flood watch through 2 p.m. Wednesday and said rainfall of 3-6 inches was possible along the North Carolina-South Carolina border, forecasters predicted closer to 2 inches of rain in Henderson County today and Wednesday.

Things improve markedly as the weekend approaches. Thursday should be sunny with a high near 75 followed by a low of 56 on Thursday night. Friday, the opening day of the Apple Festival, is expected to be sunny with a high of 76. Saturday and Sunday should be sunny with highs of 77 and 78, respectively. There's a 30 percent chance of rain on Monday and the high is expected to be near 80, the NWS said.
