MILLS RIVER — A Spartanburg, South Carolina, developer is seeking zoning approval to build 148 luxury townhomes on a 37-acre tract at 2211 and 2253 Jeffress Road in Mills River.
Longbranch Development applied for a major special permit for the development. The developer plans to 4 acres from Calvary Fellowship of WNC and combine that with 33 acres owned by Franklin Family Trust. The development "will provide quality rental housing for the Mills River community," the applicant said. The development would have a density of four units per acre and would include 16.5 acres of common area and walking trails on the east side of the development. The townhomes would be limited to two stories and would feature a variety of floor plans. Amenities would include a resort style pool, cabana, sidewalks and a dog run. Developer Brett Basnight said construction would be in one phase, projected to begin in June and take 12-14 months.
The Mills River Town Council received the application Thursday and sent it on the Planning Board for review and recommendation. The council would then take up the application and decide whether to approve or deny it.
