Forest Service plans prescribed burn Monday
By Lightning Reports, Published: March 20, 2022
The Pisgah Ranger District is planning to conduct a 2,500-acre prescribed burn Monday, March 21.
For firefighter and visitor safety the following trails and roads will be closed for the day:
- Trails: 103 Buckhorn Gap, 325 Horse Cove, 148 Cantrell Creek, 133 South Mills from Gauging Station to Cantrell Creek Lodge
- Roads: 476 Wolf Ford Road, 5018 Funnel Top Road, 5059 Buckhorn Gap
Burning days are changeable because the proper conditions are needed; wind and relative humidity are key factors in fire behavior, safety, and smoke control. Prescribed burning will only occur when environmental conditions permit.
The goal of this prescribed burn is to reduce the risk of wildfires and increase wildlife habitat diversity. The public should be aware of the potential for smoke in the area along with firefighter traffic.
