A developer that specializes in boutique townhomes and apartments is seeking a rezoning in order to build 185 apartments on 6.8 acres on Greenville Highway south of Brookdale Avenue.

A neighborhood compatibility meeting on the request will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the City Operations Center, 305 Williams St., the Hendersonville Community Development Department announced Friday.

David Gorman, co-owner of Washington, D.C.-based Lock 7 Development LLC, has applied for a zoning change from Greenville Highway Mixed Use to Greenville Highway Mixed Use conditional zoning for the construction of the multi-family project. Tax records show a 1,053-square-foot home on the parcel, which is otherwise vacant. The land, owned by Ann Ferguson of Winston-Salem, is valued on the tax books at $1,217,100.

Lock7 Development has  more than 13 years of experience developing townhomes, multifamily buildings, mixed-use properties and self-storage facilities in both Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, the company said on its website.  "We create unique and exciting places to live, shop and work with a strong emphasis on creative design and environmentally-friendly building techniques," the company says. Since 2017, Lock 7 has developed 85 projects containing 1,066 units with a market value of $463 million.

In a neighborhood compatibility meeting, the applicant is given the opportunity to provide details of a development and the public can ask questions. After that meeting, the rezoning request is subject to review by the Hendersonville Planning Board and final approval or denial by the City Council.
