Windstorm knocks out power for more than 3,000

More than 3,000 Duke Energy customers in Henderson County lost power Saturday as wind gusts of 40-50 mph swept through the region.

The utility reported that 3,118 homes and businesses had power knocked out of a total served of 68,738. Among the outages were 344 in Etowah 344, 991 in the Horse Shoe Mills  River area, 169 in Naples and 320 around Hendersonville and Valley Hill.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the area on Saturday, warning of west winds at 20-30 mph with gusts as high as 55 mph. The warning is in effect from 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday.

 
Rain showers are likely early Saturday morning and the gusty winds are forecast to be blowing all day. The forecast calls for a high of 74 on Saturday. Sunday is expected to be sunny with a high near 66 as a gradual warmup starts. Forecast for next week calls for highs of 66 on Monday, 75 on Tuesday and 76 on Wednesday.
