The Blue Ridge Community College horticulture program will hold a public plant sale on Saturday, April 22, in the Bullington Greenhouse at the Henderson County campus. All proceeds from the event will benefit Blue Ridge’s horticulture program.
“This annual sale showcases student success in growing and selling plants in a greenhouse environment,” said Rachel Meriwether, BRCC’s horticulture department chair. “Our horticulture program remains committed to hands-on learning that combines classroom skills with working environments.”
This year’s sale will feature a range of native and ornamental plants including herbs, vegetable starts, succulents, hanging baskets and perennials. Guests can also purchase food and beverages from local vendors who will be on-site during the event. Payment is accepted by cash or check only.
The horticulture program at Blue Ridge Community College was established in 1980 to offer education and training to students interested in pursuing careers in agricultural and related fields. The program offers related certificate, diploma and degree options.
Last April, Blue Ridge’s successful horticulture program received a $1 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation for a new state-of-the-art greenhouse. The upcoming facility will enable students to maintain automated growing systems and teach modern skills valuable to area growers and agribusinesses.
