Trudi Walend, a former state House member from Brevard, has been named the director of the Western North Carolina office for Gov. Pat McCrory.
Walend, who started in public health administration before becoming a Transylvania County commissioner, served in the state House for five terms. She lost a Republican primary battle to Chris Whitmire in a re-election campaign last May.
Walend said the governor's office has not worked out all the details of her role.
"We're working on what exactly we're going to do with it," she said. "The job is kind of evolving."
