EAST FLAT ROCK — Matthew and Timothy Nichols of MrMaple.com in East Flat Rock have officially purchased Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery in Gaston, Oregon. The brothers joined Talon Buchholz in the signing of the purchase agreement on Sept. 29.

MrMaple.com is a nursery that sells over a thousand cultivars of Japanese maples along with other rare and unusual plants via mail-order, shipping to all forty-eight continental states in the United States. The nursery began when Norman Nichols, the brothers’ father, began selling Japanese maples as a hobby. He then passed his company down to Matthew and Timothy in 2008. They now ship hundreds of plants a day to plant collectors across the nation.
Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery is famous worldwide for its quality plants and unique introductions. He has named over one hundred cultivars of Japanese maples, from the Ghost Family to Japanese Princess. His 25-acre farm in Oregon sells wholesale maples, conifers and other plants. Buchholz originally bought the nursery from Japanese maple author J.D. Vertrees’ family, giving it a special place in Japanese maple history.
“We intend to continue the quality wholesale plants that Buchholz is known for and continue the legacy,” Matthew Nichols of MrMaple.com said. “We hope to bring together the best of both worlds where each business benefits from the others’ amazing product lines.”
The Nichols brothers have announced that they will not be changing the name of Buchholz and Buchholz Nursery. “You wouldn’t buy Mercedes and change the name," Matthew said. "Same with Buchholz Nursery, it’s famous for what it does best.”
