A Hendersonville man died early Monday morning after a hit and run accident on U.S. 176 near the Cason Builders Supply Co., the State Highway Patrol said.
The victim, identified as Dustin Byrnside of Hendersonville, was on foot when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Noblett said.
Troopers and emergency workers responded to the accident at 7:04 a.m. after Byrnside was struck and the Ford F-150 pickup truck involved left the scene, the trooper said.
Investigators identified the driver as Jason Ryan Blackwell of East Flat Rock. Blackwell was later located at his home and charged with felony hit and run, driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving. He was being held Monday in Henderson County’s jail, Noblett said.
Traffic on the highway was diverted for a time while troopers investigated the accident.
