Veterans commemorate 75th anniversary of NATO

Veterans United for Democracy’s Team NATO will present a NATO flag display at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Historic Courthouse as part of an on-going effort to commemorate the 75th anniversary of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which was founded on April 4, 1949.

Veterans United for Democracy held its first flag display on April 7. Veterans and community supporters will hold flags representing the 32 NATO member nations of North America and Europe. The event will feature speakers on the role of NATO in the current geopolitical climate, the importance of solidarity between member nations and why supporting Ukraine is critical to maintaining international stability.

Speakers will include retired U.S. Navy Commanders Eric Ager and Jim Greene, who both have experience in military intelligence and international operations.

Veterans United for Democracy is a Hendersonville based coalition of veterans of all eras and service branches who support NATO and a strong relationship with our international allies.

This event is free and is open to all. In case of rain, the display will be postponed to May 11. The Historic Courthouse is located at 1 Historic Courthouse Square, off Main Street in downtown Hendersonville. For more information, contact Bob Houde, rehoude1947@gmail.com.
