20th annual WNC Flyer set for Sunday, June 2

The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club is hosting the 20th annual WNC Flyer on Sunday, June 2, at Oskar Blues Brewery in Brevard followed by a party celebrating the club's 50th anniversary.

The oldest and largest bicycle club in Western North Carolina, with more than 1,000 members, BRBC has been a beacon of cycling advocacy. It was recognized as the 2023 Club of the Year by the League of American Bicyclists. Over the years, BRBC has contributed more than $500,000 to cycling-related causes, enhancing biking and walking infrastructure and promoting cycling as a means of healthy living across Western North Carolina.

The WNC Flyer presented by Hunter Subaru is the flagship fundraiser of the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club. With the support of the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority the ride attracts a large annual gathering of cycling enthusiasts from across multiple states. Offering four diverse routes ranging from 25 to 100 miles, the event takes riders through the breathtaking scenery of Western North Carolina. Dubbed the "Cycling Capital of the South," the Brevard-Rosman area boasts stunning mountain vistas without the daunting climbs, creating unforgettable experiences for both new and experienced cyclists alike.

After the ride, participants can enjoy local bluegrass music, savory BBQ and a complimentary brew at Oskar Blues Brewery. The party also provides an opportunity to honor the legacy of BRBC founders Claudia Nix and her husband, who remain pivotal figures in the local cycling community. Their hard work and dedication continue to propel cycling advocacy, and this is a special opportunity to commemorate their efforts. It’s a true celebration of community and cycling culture.
