The State Highway Patrol welcomed 41 new troopers during a graduation ceremony of the 163rd Basic Highway Patrol School last week in Cary. The class included two troopers who will be assigned to the SHP’s Hendersonville station.
The ceremony culminated 27 weeks of demanding training received at the State Highway Patrol Training Academy in Raleigh. Graduates included Henderson County residents George L. Godinez-Mendoza and Andrew S. Taylor. The new state troopers report to their duty stations on Sept. 11 to begin field training.
Col. Freddy L. Johnson Jr., commander of the State Highway Patrol, delivered words of encouragement to the graduates and their families.
“It is admirable that these new troopers have chosen a life of service to our great state,” he said. “I have great faith that their work as ambassadors will only strengthen the positive reputation our agency has built a part of our storied 95-year history.”
