APPLE FESTIVAL: Here's the schedule of events

Here’s the schedule of events for the four-day N.C. Apple Festival:

FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

  • North Carolina Apple Festival Downtown Street Fair, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Historic Downtown Hendersonville Merchants Sidewalk Sale,
    10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Wells Fargo Kiddie Carnival, noon-8 p.m. Tickets: $1-5 per activity. Sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank.
  • Mineral & Lapidary Museum Open House, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 400 N. Main St.
  • 42nd Annual Gem & Mineral Spectacular, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Whitmire Activity Bldg., 310 Lily Pond Road.
  • Vintage Apple Festival Tee-shirt display, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.,
    Piggy’s & Harry’s, 102 Duncan Hill Road.
  • Apple Growers/Beekeepers Educational Booth, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., between Third and Fourth avenues.
  • Henderson County Heritage Museum, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Historic Courthouse.
  • WNC Air Museum Open House and Air Craft Rides, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., 1340 E. Gilbert St.

 

FRIDAY

  • Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, 7 a.m.-10 a.m., First United Methodist Church, 204 Sixth Ave. W. Tickets: $10. Free for children 6 and under.
  • Apple Recipe Contest winners announcement, 12:30 p.m., mainstage.
  • Opening Ceremony of the 78thC. Apple Festival, 2:15 p.m., mainstage.
  • Laurel Park Village Shopping Center Sidewalk Sale, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

 

SATURDAY

 

  • Apple Festival Races, 8-11 a.m. Distances for all runners: Mini Moo Mile, 5k and 8k. Start-finish is at Pardee Cancer Center, 805 Sixth Ave. W. Packet pickup is 11 a.m.-2p.m. Friday at Hunter Subaru, 220 Hunter Airport Drive, Fletcher, as well as  6:30-7:15 a.m. the day of the race.
  • Hendersonville Farmers Market, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 650 Maple St.
  • Laurel Park Village Shopping Center Sidewalk Sale, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; British Car Club of WNC car show, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Lonesome Road Band, 1-3 p.m.

SUNDAY

  • Breakfast with the Elks, 7 a.m.-noon, Elks Lodge, 546 N. Justice St. Tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $8 for kids 6-12 years, free for kids under 6.

LABOR DAY

  • Tour d’Apple road bicycling event, 8 a.m. Start-finish is at Blue Ridge Community College, 42 W. Campus Drive, Flat Rock. Packet pickup and in-person registration open 1-3 p.m. Sunday and starting at 7 a.m. Monday at BRCC. The Tour d’Apple offers four routes tailored to all skill levels. Rides, distance and arrow colors are Honeycrisp Unbelievable Century, 100 miles, yellow; Gala Metric Challenge, 62, orange; Jonagold Lite, 45, blue; Green Apple Enthusiast, 25, green.
  • Vintage aircraft flyover, before parade start.
  • King Apple Parade, 2:30 p.m., Five Points to Caswell Street.
